Program Details

Embroidery, as a traditional Chinese folk craft, dates back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties. Following its evolution through the Qin, Han, Tang, and Song periods, it reached its zenith during the Ming and Qing dynasties, giving rise to distinct regional styles such as Su, Xiang, Yue, and Shu embroidery. This exhibition reviews this historical journey and presents modern works that integrate contemporary artistic aesthetics.

Furthermore, the exhibition highlights the Kesi silk tapestry. Originating in the Sui and Tang dynasties and reaching its peak in the Song Dynasty, this technique is famous for its 'Tong Jing Duan Wei' (continuous warp and discontinuous weft) method, resulting in textiles that are both soft and resilient. Due to the extreme complexity of its production, it is famously known as 'one inch of Kesi is worth one inch of gold.' Visitors will have the opportunity to delve into the history of this craft, from its exclusive use by royalty to its current status in the art collection world.
