Overview

'Future Heritage: Inheriting the Future' marks the final stop of the Hong Kong exhibition from the 2025 Venice International Architecture Biennale. Following its tour in Bangkok and Shanghai, the exhibition returns to Hong Kong in its most comprehensive iteration to date. Presented by the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Biennale Foundation in collaboration with the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, and supported by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, the exhibition is curated by architects Ou Hui, Dr. Zhou Ying, Lau Shing-yeung, Yuen Wing-yee, and Yeung Chun-hong. It explores the collective wisdom of Hong Kong’s first generation of local architects from the post-war period to the 1990s, reframing their contributions as 'future heritage.'

Exhibition Highlights

The exhibition is divided into two primary zones featuring extensive archives, models, and installations:

  • H Queen's Knotting Space: This zone features an archive built from 20 documentation cabinets and 100 drawers, housing hundreds of research materials, maps, photos, and models from 23 of the 32 participating teams. It includes 12 films on contemporary public space and three 1:50 scale models recreating the exhibition sites in Venice, Bangkok, and Shanghai. A large-scale installation using traditional Hong Kong scaffolding contrasts with the modern H Queen's building.
  • Hysan Place, Causeway Bay: This section presents additional content from the tour, further exploring the public value of urban spaces.

Program Themes

The exhibition showcases various building types, including integrated structures, cooperative housing, multi-purpose municipal buildings, and public housing estates. By re-examining how these structures shape public life, the exhibition invites the audience to reflect on the development trajectory of urban planning and collective living spaces.

Venue & Access

The exhibition is hosted at H Queen's, 7/F, 80 Queen's Road Central, and Hysan Place, 500 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay. Visitors can easily reach both venues via the MTR by alighting at Central or Causeway Bay stations.
