Highlights
deTour 2026 Design Festival arrives at PMQ under the thought-provoking theme, 'BETTER, NOT PERFECT: Prototypes for Tomorrow.' Curated by Huang Xin, alongside architects Tsang Wai-chun, Ho Hung-lai, and Cheung Hoi-kwan, and mixed-media designer Cheng Chi-lai, the festival explores how design concepts transition from prototypes to everyday life.
Program Overview
The festival showcases 14 works from local, regional, and international creators, covering fields such as speculative tools, adaptive materials, social design, digital daily life, urban intervention, and immersive experiences. The exhibition is divided into three key zones designed to deepen public engagement with design:
- THE CONCEPT LAB (Everyday Objects +1 New Idea): Focuses on observing and reimagining ordinary objects and scenarios.
- THE IRL FIELD (+1 Iteration): Features works that have undergone extensive research and refinement, proving that 'better' is an achievable standard.
- THE FUTURE TRACK (+1 Dimension): Presents large-scale installations that blur the lines between art, design, and technology. A highlight of this year's event is the Hong Kong debut of international design influencer Matty Benedetto, who will present his famous Department of Everyday Problems / Unnecessary Inventions installation.
Public Engagement & Pop-Up Shop
Beyond the exhibitions, deTour 2026 offers a diverse array of interactive public activities. Visitors can participate in cross-disciplinary creative workshops led by professional designers, engage in design dialogues, and join guided tours led by the curatorial team. Furthermore, the festival introduces its first-ever 'pop-up shop,' where attendees can purchase exclusive designer products, curated lifestyle items, and event-themed merchandise.
