Highlights
As a centerpiece of the City Contemporary Dance Festival 2026, "HOTPOT East Asia Dance Platform V" features four top-tier Korean dance groups presenting four distinct contemporary dance works. The program navigates the space between traditional roots and modern experimentation, spanning from reinterpretations of mask dances and shamanistic rituals to explorations of group psychology and modern isolation. This performance offers a profound look at the rich foundation and avant-garde impact of the Korean contemporary dance scene.
Program Details
The performance showcases four selected works:
"Luminous": Choreographed and performed by LEE Eisul. This work commemorates lost lives, reflecting on the reality of death and exploring the deep human meaning often overlooked in modern society.
"Bridal Mask": Choreographed and performed by JUNG Bo Kyung. Using traditional masks as a central motif, this piece combines ritualistic movements to tell the stories of women whose voices have been suppressed, transforming silence into powerful physical language.
"Are You Guilty?": Choreographed by KIM Min. Inspired by the "Bystander Effect" in psychology, three male dancers engage in rapid physical tussles around a table and chair, exposing the fragility of human nature in an indifferent crowd and posing a sharp moral question to the audience.
"Trance Dance": Choreographed and performed by CHOI Jong-in. Inspired by Korea's past bus tour dance culture, this work invites the audience and dancers alike to undergo a "dopamine detox," setting aside external stimuli to experience pure joy through movement.
