Overview

To celebrate its 47th anniversary, the Macau Drama Society proudly presents its annual production, 'The Shadow Box' (隱若同棺). Directed by renowned Hong Kong director Mak Chau and Kwong Chun-yip, with script translation by Ma Hon-lam, this production brings the classic American Broadway play by Michael Cristofer to the stage, offering a poignant exploration of life's final stages.

Program

'The Shadow Box,' which premiered in 1977, is set in a hospice for the terminally ill. The narrative weaves together the stories of three terminal patients and their families, exploring the profound emotional intricacies, conflicts, and struggles during the final stages of life. The play shines a spotlight not only on the patients but also on the caregivers, reflecting the psychological pressure and emotional support involved in caregiving. Through an artistic stage interpretation, the production prompts the audience to engage in deep reflection on life, death, and the true meaning of existence.
