Shi Jiazhuang Sixian is a rare and distinct form of local Chinese opera originating from Hebei province, recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage since 2006. Known for its soaring, powerful vocal styles and fluid, energetic martial arts sequences, it represents the heart of the Yanzhao cultural tradition. This presentation features the Shi Jiazhuang Sixian Art Center, showcasing a group of talented young performers who will bring these heritage classics to the Hong Kong stage.

Program Details

This production features two major theatrical works that showcase the core artistry of Chinese opera, blending vocal storytelling with vigorous physical performance:

• The Women Generals of the Yang Family: A legendary tale of the Yang family widows who take up armor to defend their country. The production highlights the martial prowess and heroic spirit of iconic figures such as Mu Guiying, She Taijun, and Yang Qiniang, perfectly complemented by the distinct artistic style of Sixian opera.
• The Hero and His Successor: An original production narrating the story of the Northern Song general Zong Ze, who discovers and protects the young Yue Fei, eventually teaming up to lead a campaign. Audiences will have the opportunity to appreciate the detailed performances and technical skill of the cast.
