Nighttime Ecological Guided Tour and Workshop - Habitat Optimization and Creation for Chinese Floating Frog and Rice Fish

Highlights

This event blends ecological education with hands-on conservation. Participants will visit the wetlands in Yi O, Lantau Island, to learn about the habitats of the endangered Chinese Floating Frog and the Rice Fish (Oryzias curvinotus), while actively participating in habitat maintenance. This is a meaningful "Observation → Participation → Maintenance" nighttime ecological experience, allowing you to contribute directly to vital conservation efforts.

Program

The Chinese Floating Frog had disappeared from local freshwater wetlands since 1995, facing severe habitat loss. Under the "Yi O Wild" project, a permanent flooded paddy field has been established to restore their home and successfully reintroduce the species. This workshop invites the public to explore their habitats at night and engage in practical habitat maintenance work, providing deep insights into the challenges and processes of ecological restoration.

Venue & Access

The meeting point is at the Tai O New Pier (near the bus terminus). Yi O is situated between Tai O and Fan Lau; participants will travel by boat between Tai O and Yi O (approx. 7 minutes journey). Boat arrangements are subject to tidal and weather conditions. The organizer will confirm the tour status before the event date.

Ticketing

Fees include professional guiding, instructor fees, return boat fares between Tai O and Yi O, and insurance. Options are available as follows:

• Habitat Maintenance Workshop only: HK$150

The event is organized by Local Life Ltd, with sponsorship from the Lantau Conservation Fund. Should the event not proceed as planned, the organizer will arrange for alternative dates or refunds.
